Building location and GPS check-in: what the coordinates are used for

A building's coordinates are used for exactly one thing: telling whether a cleaner who pressed Start my day was at the building when she did. One reading, then nothing.

By the end of this pageYou will know how check-in works, what the rota shows, what staff should be told, and why it is deliberately not a tracking system.

How it works

In Settings › Business › Location (per place) paste the coordinates and set a radius. When a staff member presses Start my day, the browser asks once for their position; if granted, that one reading goes to the platform, which computes the distance and records on-site, the distance, or no location. The rota and the day's record show that one word beside their name. Nothing further is read that day.

What staff should be told

Three sentences, which the Start button also shows: it reads your location once when you press this; it is only used to mark you on site; it cannot see where you are at any other time. Staff who understand that accept it; staff who are told nothing assume the worst.

What it is not

Not time-and-attendance — a kiosk PIN clock-in is that. Not proof for a disciplinary — browser GPS is tens of metres off in cities and can be spoofed by a determined phone. Not a route tracker — there is no continuous reading and no way to enable one.

Other uses of the coordinates

The place card on My day links to the map. Lease PDFs can include a map pin. Scattered units each have their own point so a cleaner's job shows directions. That is the list.

Accuracy. Outdoors, 10–30 m; indoors or under a tower, far worse. A 150 m radius absorbs most of it. If honest check-ins show as outside, widen the radius before doubting the person.
