Payroll basics: periods, pay lines, payslips

Payroll for a building is eight people, twice a month, with contributions that must be right. The platform turns the employment records into a pay run you review once and post — and sends each person their payslip.

By the end of this pageYou will understand periods and pay lines, where the numbers come from, what you review before posting, and what posting does.

Illustrative only — the platform uses the contribution tables in force for the period, which change. Your accountant confirms the rates.

Periods

Semi-monthly (1–15, 16–end) is the Philippine norm and the default; monthly and weekly exist. A period opens automatically, collects attendance and adjustments, and waits for you to run it. People › Payroll.

Pay lines

Each person's lines come from their employment record: basic, allowances (taxable or not), fixed deductions (a loan repayment). The period adds variable lines: absences and lates from the kiosk attendance sheet, overtime you approve, a one-off bonus or deduction you type. Every line has a source you can click through to.

Contributions and tax

SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG employee and employer shares from the tables in force for the period; withholding tax from the BIR table if the person is above the threshold. The platform ships with the tables and updates them; you can override a rate for a period if your accountant says so, and the override is logged.

Review and post

The run shows every person, every line, the totals, and anything unusual flagged — a net pay that changed more than 20% from last period, a missing attendance day. Fix on the person, re-run, then Post. Posting locks the period, creates the expenses (salaries under People, employer contributions as their own lines), and releases payslips.

Payslips

Each person gets a PDF payslip on their phone (portal-style link, their PIN or password to open) and can see all past ones under My account. The payslip shows every line and the contribution breakdown the way the BIR expects.

Paying out is not payroll's job. Posting records what is owed; you pay by bank batch or cash and record the payment against the salary expense like any other. The monthly pack includes the payroll register and the contribution remittance summary for the accountant.
